Fata Narrat: Short Stories

Draft of Wraith's Lair Mystery

In the heart of an ancient forest, where trees whispered secrets of old, stood a weathered cabin. The locals avoided this place, for it was said that the spirits of those who had entered never returned. But John, a curious historian, felt compelled to uncover the truth behind these tales.

John arrived late one evening, his flashlight casting eerie shadows on the walls as he explored the dark interior. Suddenly, a cold wind swept through, extinguishing his light. Panicked, he fumbled for matches but found none. Just when he thought he was trapped, a dim light flickered into existence, illuminating a dusty journal bound in leather.

The pages of the journal detailed tragic stories of love and loss, each one ending with a chilling prediction about the next person who would read it. As John flipped through the pages, his flashlight began to glow faintly on its own. A whisper echoed from the shadows, 'You should not have come here.'

Feeling an oppressive presence, John tried to escape but found every door locked. The whispers grew louder, and a cold hand touched his shoulder. He spun around, only to see no one there. In terror, he stumbled towards the window, where he saw his own reflection-eyes hollow, skin pale.

The next morning, his body was found in an alley behind the cabin, with only the journal in his grip and a chilling note: 'You should not have come here.'

Draft Review of Wraith's Lair Mystery

The plot is intriguing but could benefit from more details to build tension. The journal's entries seem disconnected from the main narrative. More interaction between John and his surroundings would enhance the eerie atmosphere. Consider adding physical descriptions of the cabin and forest to create a vivid setting.
