Fata Narrat: Short Stories

Guardian of Time

In the heart of 2045, amidst towering skyscrapers and whirring drones, stood an unassuming garage. Inside, Dr. Elara Myles tinkered with her latest invention-a time machine. Her life had always revolved around unraveling the mysteries of space-time. Now, it was finally within reach.

The day she activated the device, a shimmering portal opened before her. With bated breath, Elara stepped through, feeling the fabric of reality stretch and twist. The world outside grew dim as the portal closed behind her, leaving her in an eerie void.

Suddenly, the stars blurred into a swirling mass. When they steadied, she found herself standing on the streets of ancient Rome. The air was thick with incense and chatter, voices mingling with the clanging of metalwork from nearby workshops. Elara marveled at the grandeur of it all-Roman soldiers parading in armor, chariots racing through the Forum.

But her joy was short-lived. A sudden commotion drew her attention to a group of men arguing fiercely about something. Intrigued, she approached them and overheard their heated debate. They spoke of a great leader, someone who could change the course of history forever-Julius Caesar.

Elara realized this knowledge was too powerful. If revealed prematurely, it could alter the timeline drastically. She had to return home, but how? The time machine lay dormant in her dreams as she pondered her next move. Determined not to disrupt history, Elara made a silent vow to find another way.

Back in 2045, as she re-emerged into the bustling cityscape, Elara knew she had just begun her true journey-across time and space to protect the fragile threads of reality.
