Fata Narrat: Short Stories

Mystic Symbols

In the heart of London, Sarah discovered an old, leather-bound journal hidden beneath her grandmother's antique desk. The mysterious artifact was dated from the early 1900s, its cover embossed with a peculiar emblem that she had never seen before. Curious, Sarah opened it to find pages filled with cryptic notes and drawings of an unknown city, marked only by its streets' names written in a foreign script. As she delved deeper into the journal's contents, strange symbols began appearing on her walls at night, leaving Sarah questioning if she was being watched or if her grandmother had hidden something more than just memories.

Sarah's grandmother, Eliza, always seemed distant and aloof, but now, the tension between them grew palpable. Whenever Sarah suggested they discuss the journal's contents, Eliza would change the subject with a sharp glance. One evening, as Sarah returned home from work to find her apartment covered in these symbols, she confronted her grandmother.

'What is this about?' Sarah demanded, pointing at the cryptic writing on the walls.

Eliza's eyes narrowed, and her voice was cold. 'It's none of your business,' she snapped, turning away. The next day, as Sarah walked through the crowded streets of London, she noticed similar symbols carved into the pavement near her home, making her believe someone was following or watching her closely.

Determined to uncover the truth, Sarah ventured back into the journal's cryptic world. She found references to a secret society that once existed in this unknown city and realized these symbols might be clues leading to their whereabouts. As she tried to piece together the fragments of information, strange whispers echoed around her, and shadows moved unnaturally in corners of dark alleyways.

Sarah knew something sinister was at play, and it seemed like her grandmother had more secrets than just old journals. She made a pact with herself that night: no matter what, she would uncover the truth behind these symbols and the society they hinted at.
